Selecting Sites for Coal-Fired Power Plants

Journal of the Energy Division, 1982
Methods that have been used to select sites for coal-fired power plants are reviewed. A specific site selection procedure is presented that has been successfully applied in a number of cases. This procedure addresses the challenging features of site selection, including multiple evaluation concerns, significant uncertainties, multiple interest groups ...

CO2 sequestration from coal fired power plants

Fuel, 2010
Abstract The paper takes into consideration a new approach for CO 2 capture and transport, based on the formation of solid CO 2 hydrates. Carbon dioxide sequestration from power plants can take advantage of the properties of gas hydrates. The formation and decomposition of hydrates from various N 2 –CO 2 mixtures has been studied experimentally ...

Emissions of Sulfur Trioxide from Coal-Fired Power Plants

Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association, 2004
Emissions of sulfur trioxide (SO3) are a key component of plume opacity and acid deposition. Consequently, these emissions need to be low enough to not cause opacity violations and acid deposition. Generally, a small fraction of sulfur (S) in coal is converted to SO3 in coal-fired combustion devices such as electric utility boilers.

Mercury Control for Coal-fired Power Plants

2007
Mercury is a toxic, persistent pollutant that accumulates in the food chain, especially in fish, and causes major environmental health concerns. There are many sources of natural and anthropogenic emissions, but combustion of coal is known to be the major anthropogenic source of mercury (Hg) emissions in the U.S. and worldwide.

Performance Testing of Coal Fired Power Plants

ASME 2007 Power Conference, 2007
With the renewed interest in the construction of coal-fired power plants in the United States, there has also been an increased interest in the methodology used to calculate/determine the overall performance of a coal fired power plant. This methodology is detailed in the ASME PTC 46 (1996) Code, which provides an excellent framework for determining ...

Coal-Fired Power Plants Alternative Petcoke Fired Power Plants

2016
Petroleum coke is not by-product of refinery, have been started using alternative fuel for energy production because of high carbon content and low ash rate. Growing energy demand in our country and even the World leads to the depletion of fossil resources life time.

CO2 capture in coal-fired power plants—Impact on plant performance

International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control, 2011
Abstract In order to reduce CO2 emissions from a power plant, CO2 can either be captured from the flue gases or from the syngas stream in a gasification plant. In this paper, the authors compare the effect of CO2 capture on power plant performance for a pulverised coal power plant with post-combustion CO2 capture, an Integrated Gasification Combined ...

Knowledge-Based Monitoring of Coal-Fired Power Plants

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1993
Abstract The increasing complexity of coal-fired power plants especially due to added environmental protection equipment like flue gas desulphurization (FGD) plants places high demands on control roon1 operators. These problems may be alleviated using a knowledge-based system (KDS) for process monitoring and operator support.
