Mullite production by valorization of a hydrodesulphurization catalyst waste
Due to its high alumina and silica content, Ni–Mo catalyst waste is a suitable, amorphous raw material for producing aluminosilicate phases. Thermal treatment of the waste at 1200°C for 30 min yields a material containing 50 wt.% mullite and exhibiting 96% overall crystallinity. The addition of amorphous silica significantly enhances mullite formation:
