FT-i.r. spectroscopic analysis of coals and coal extracts
Fuel, 1986Abstract Several Canadian coals were analysed by FT-i.r. The technique is applicable to both the organic and inorganic part of the coal. The method by which the spectra can be subtracted one from the other, allows the distinguishing of one coal from another by characteristic functional groups.

Automatic maceral analysis of low-rank coal (brown coal)
International Journal of Coal Geology, 1989Abstract In the nomenclature system for the macerals of low-rank coal, which has been established by ICCP and already world-wide adopted, one of the macerals, huminite, is divided into three maceral subgroups depending on preservation extent of plant materials.

Organic Geochemistry, 1988
Abstract A structural analysis of the organic part of 2 coals of different rank (Gardanne coal and Freyming coal) was performed by UV fluorescence spectroscopy (synchronous excitation-emission technique). The spectral study was made on different extracts (hexane, toluene, tetrahydrofuran and pyridine extracts) obtained by ultrasonic multiple step ...

Rapid Coal Analysis. Part II: Slurry Atomization DCP Emission Analysis of NBS Coal
Applied Spectroscopy, 1985A McCrone Micronising Mill is used to wet grind NBS bituminous coal to a median particle diameter of 5.7 μm within 10 min. The finely divided coal slurry is immediately nebulized without sieving into a three-electrode DCP for accurate trace element determinations within 15 min overall elapsed time.

Carbon materials are widely used in metallurgy and in the power industry as fuels and reducing agents. Coal, although inexpensive, is difficult to use, on account of its high ash content. In the operation of industrial systems, the ash might melt, with the subsequent formation of buildup. In addition, coal ash must be stored in tailings.

Thermal analysis of oxidised coals
Thermochimica Acta, 2004Abstract The study has been performed on samples of high sulphur content Spanish brown coal Mequinenza and Polish flame coal Czeczot. The samples of raw coals and the coals oxidised by four different oxidising agents have been subjected to derivative thermogravimetry analysis (DTG).
