Bioconversion and characterization of watermelon rind waste‐based microcrystalline cellulose: A green alternative to synthetic reinforcements

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was extracted from watermelon rind using acid hydrolysis. MCC can be efficiently used as reinforcement in biofilms and biocomposites. Abstract The increasing accumulation of agricultural waste from watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) represents a substantial environmental concern, particularly in view of the extensive ...

Small molecules as arthropod kinin receptor antagonists, feeding modulators, or novel mosquitocidal agents

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
A two‐pronged screen of small molecules – (1) on recombinant kinin receptor and (2) through topical application – identifies kinin receptor antagonists, feeding behavior modulators, and new mosquitocidal molecules. Abstract BACKGROUND Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes are primary vectors for numerous human and animal pathogens and ...

Toward Efficient and Reliable Chemical Upgrading Using Solid Oxide Electrochemical Reactors, Mechanisms, Challenges, and Design Principles

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Solid oxide electrochemical reactors (SOERs) offer a compelling pathway for coupling renewable electricity with chemical manufacturing, but their real application is still limited by low efficiency and instability. This review systematically summarizes SOER reaction mechanisms, performance‐limiting factors, and recent progress toward high‐efficiency ...

The Application of Hydrochar Composite Briquettes for Sustainable Slag Foaming in the Electric Arc Furnace Process

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

The Evolution of Electrochemical and Safety Properties of Nonflammable Triethyl Phosphate Based Electrolyte Under Salt Concentration Control

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
By regulating the lithium salt concentration to alter the solvation structure of Li+, and subsequently affecting the chemical composition of the SEI, the evolution of salt concentration on the electrochemical and safety performance of cells are explored. ABSTRACT Phosphates exhibit excellent flame retardancy. Phosphate‐based electrolytes with high‐salt‐

Exploration and summary of prevention and control of rock burst in steeply inclined and ultra-thick coal seam

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
The roof breaking movement of steeply inclined and ultra-thick coal seam mining is complex, and the evolution law of stress and energy is special. Under the influence of deep ‘three highs and one disturbance’, the prevention and control of rock burst is ...

Monitoring of historical structural materials with computed tomography

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Computed tomography (CT) is an excellent tool to solve certain engineering problems connected to material science (such as sulfate swelling, internal degradation due to freezing, and alkali silicate swelling) and to understand specific processes (frost peeling, acid action).

Coal desulfurization by low temperature chlorinolysis, phase 3 [PDF]

open access: yes
Laboratory scale, bench scale batch reactor, and minipilot plant tests were conducted on 22 bituminous, subbituminous, and lignite coals. Chemical pretreatment and post treatment of coals relative to the chlorination were tried as a means of enhancing ...
