Diesel aerosols in an underground coal mine

Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, 2021
The case study was conducted in an underground coal mine to characterize submicron aerosols at a continuous miner (CM) section, assess the concentrations of diesel aerosols at the longwall (LW) section, and assess the exposures of selected occupations to elemental carbon (EC) and total carbon (TC). The results show that aerosols at the CM sections were

A robotic system for underground coal mining

Proceedings 1992 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003
The authors describe a system that automates a continuous miner, enabling it to maneuver in highly constrained environments and cut coal without a human operator onboard. The system consists of a modified continuous miner, a laser range sensor, a SPARCstation, and control software.

Safety and Productivity in Underground Coal Mining

The Review of Economics and Statistics, 1983
An extended Cobb-Douglas production function is developed and estimated in order to examine the extent to which the decline in measured productivity in underground coal mining can be attributed to (1) changes in safety conditions which reflect movement along a product transformation frontier relating safety and marketable output and (2) a shift ...

Particle Size Distributions in Underground Coal Mines

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1987
This paper reports the results of a sampling program undertaken by NIOSH to determine the particle size distributions in underground coal mines. The program made use of newly developed cascade impactors capable of being operated with personal sampling pumps.
