Relation of Coal-Dust to Explosions in Coal-Mines [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1886
IT is a stubborn and grievous fact that the loss of life by explosions in coal-mines has risen in the last decade, although the number of explosions has fallen. This points clearly to some essential defect in the remedies adopted. The remedies in use apply apparently to one class of explosions only, hence the decrease in the number of explosions.

Failure mechanism of the coal wall at the working face based on an eccentric compression mechanical model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In this study, the nonuniform distribution of the bearing pressure in front of the coal wall has been revealed based on in situ monitoring data and numerical simulation results. Therefore, an eccentric compression mechanical model of the coal wall was established to study the deformation and failure characteristics of a coal wall. The slenderness ratio

Investigation of ammonium polyphosphate dilution with ground eggshells and lignin through the study of natural fibre composite flammability

open access: yesFire and Materials, Volume 47, Issue 1, Page 28-50, January/February 2023., 2023
Summary The interactions of Calcium carbonate (e.g., eggshell powder) and Lignin with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) when used as fire retardants were investigated. Three mixing ratios ‐ 1:3, 1:1, and 3:1, were used with natural fibre reinforced composites containing a hemp mat and an epoxy matrix manufactured using a light resin transfer moulding (L‐RTM)

Lateral abutment pressure distribution and evolution in wide pillars under the first mining effect

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2023
The wide pillars are generally popular due to the high productivity and efficiency in Northwest China. The distribution of lateral abutment pressure in coal pillars is important for mining safety.

Research on transparency of coal mine geological conditions based on distributed fiber‐optic sensing technology

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study, which focuses on geological hazards associated with coal mines, analyzes the types and sensing parameters of geological hazards caused by coal seam mining, summarizes the action fields related to these hazards in mining, and discusses the multi‐field sensing method of disaster characteristics associated with mining rock mass in conjunction ...

The influence of oil price uncertainty on stock liquidity

open access: yesJournal of Futures Markets, Volume 43, Issue 2, Page 141-167, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Using high‐frequency intraday data, this study provides strong empirical evidence that elevated oil price uncertainty has a significant and negative influence on stock liquidity. More specifically, the results suggest that large oil‐related corporations are most affected, followed by small‐listed firms more generally.

Coal Mine Safety Alert System: Refining BP Neural Network with Genetic Algorithm Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In response to the persistent safety challenges within coal mines, this study proposes a novel approach integrating a three-layer feedforward backpropagation artificial neural network with a genetic algorithm (GA-BP) for establishing a safety early warning system.
