Relationships among tissues, biofluids, and otolith selenium concentrations in wild female burbot (Lota lota)

open access: yesIntegrated Environmental Assessment and Management, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract In the Lake Koocanusa‐Kootenai River system (Montana, USA and British Columbia, Canada), selenium (Se) contamination has become an international concern and is suspected to contribute to the observed burbot (Lota lota) population collapse. Due to our limited ability to sample burbot in Lake Koocanusa for monitoring studies, we used a reference

Application of Methods of Artificial Intelligence in Systems for Continuous Automatic Monitoring of Dust Concentration and Deposits in Mine Atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
With the growth of coal production, the load on the production capacity of coal enterprises also increases, which leads to a concomitant increase in dust formation in both opencast and underground methods of mining coal deposits. Dust, generated during drilling, blasting operations, excavation, loading, crushing and transportation of mined rock is one ...

Experimental and constitutive modeling investigations on marble in Jinping Underground Laboratory

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The objective of this study is to reveal the underlying mechanisms behind the brittle‐ductile transition of the marble through a combination of experimental research and constitutive modeling. A series of triaxial compression and triaxial cyclic loading tests are conducted.

Investigation of Load Characteristics and Stress-Energy Evolution Laws of Gob-Side Roadways Under Thick and Hard Roofs

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The stress environments of gob-side roadways (GSRs) are becoming increasingly complex during deep coal mining under thick and hard roofs. This leads to strong strata behaviors, including roadway floor heave, roof subsidence, and even coal bursts.

Evaluation of the CO2 storage potential in CO2‐enhanced oil recovery: A case study of the Subei Basin, Jiangsu Province, China

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
CO2‐enhanced oil recovery (CO2‐EOR) is an economically viable carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technique that is widely practiced and contributes significantly to the achievement of carbon‐neutral cities. However, few studies have been conducted on CO2‐EOR source–sink matching involving different emission sources, different carbon ...

Study on the diffusion and migration law of CO2 sequestrated in abandoned coal mine goaf

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The goaf of an abandoned coal mine, endowed with expansive fracture spaces and an abundance of residual coal, can be capable of sequestrating substantial quantities of CO2. The residual coal is the principal medium for the sequestration of CO2 in the form of adsorption and the amount of sequestration is considerable.

Learning for Feasible Region on Coal Mine Virtual Power Plants with Imperfect Information [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The feasible region assessment (FRA) in industrial virtual power plants (VPPs) is driven by the need to activate large-scale latent industrial loads for demand response, making it essential to aggregate these flexible resources for peak regulation. However, the large number of devices and the need for privacy preservation in coal mines pose challenges ...

Strain‐based modeling and analysis for rock blasting and geomechanics applications

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a novel strain‐based modeling approach for blasting and geomechanical applications, using measurable variables like particle velocity, strain, and displacement. By bypassing complex constitutive relations, strain‐based models capture critical blasting trends and full‐blast design parameters with minimal calibration.

The lack of dynamic competition and the market insufficiency for agricultural productivity growth: Implications for the role of the state

open access: yesJournal of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, Volume 1, Issue 4, Page 374-384, December 2022., 2022
Abstract This paper shows that there is lack of dynamic competition in agriculture, making the market mechanism of agriculture insufficient for bringing about technological innovations. The market insufficiency differs from market failures in that the former causes dynamic inefficiency and lack of growth while the latter causing static inefficiency in ...
