Hyperfine parameters such as isomer shift, quadrupole splitting and the total internal magnetic field of 57 Fe nuclei were used to identify various iron-bearing species during different stages of the process.

石炭の自然発火は現在まで主として化学的の面より研究されてきたが炭鉱内においておこる坑内自然発火の場合はその原因になる因子が非常に多く, この原因を発見することが困難である。従つて自然発火の早期発見も困難であつた。自然発火の早期発見に関しては現在まで臭気, 湿度の変化, 温度の上昇, 特殊指示ガスなどがその要素となつていたが, これらの方法はいずれも適確な予知ができず, また発見された時はもうすでにかなり自然発火が進んでいるという状況である。筆者は本文中において温度変化による発見の方途を一歩進めて炭層温度, 炭壁温度, 気流温度の相関関係から自然発火を予知する方法を述べるとともに, アスファルト乳剤塗布による自然発火防止の基礎実験について述べる。
