Coarctation of the aorta: natural history and outcome after surgical treatment.

open access: yesQJM : monthly journal of the Association of Physicians, 1999
Coarctation of the aorta (Figure 1) accounts for approximately 5% of all congenital heart disease and is found at necropsy in up to 1:1550 patients.1 It is approximately three times more common in males.2 The traditional classification into infantile ...

Left ventricular mechanical function and aortic elastic properties in newborns with aortic coarctation. Prognostic significance of obtained data

open access: yesПатология кровообращения и кардиохирургия, 2019
Coarctation of the aorta is one of the most common congenital heart defects. Despite excellent early results of correcting isolated coarctation of the aorta in the neonatal period, in the long-term postoperative period such patients have an increased ...

Native aortic coarctation in neonates and infants: Immediate and midterm outcomes with balloon angioplasty and surgery

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology, 2018
Background: Native aortic coarctation in young infants can be treated surgically or with balloon angioplasty, although the latter approach remains controversial.

Coarctation of the Aorta, Known Yet Can Be Missed

open access: yesOman Medical Journal, 2013
The clinical presentation of coarctation of aorta (CoA) is well known; however, it is the most common congenital heart disease in the newborn period to be missed, with significant mortality and morbidity associated with missing the diagnosis. We report a

Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

Hypoglycemia Induces Diabetic Macrovascular Endothelial Dysfunction via Endothelial Cell PANoptosis, Macrophage Polarization, and VSMC Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates hypoglycemia‐induced diabetic macrovascular endothelial dysfunction. It reveals that hypoglycemia triggers ZBP1‐dependent PANoptosis of endothelial cells, proinflammatory polarization of macrophages, and fibrosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in diabetic mice.

Coarctation: A Review

open access: yesUS Cardiology Review, 2020
Coarctation of the aorta occurs in 0.04% of the population, and accounts for approximately 10% of lesions in adults with congenital heart disease. It can occur as an isolated lesion or as a part of a complex defect, and is most commonly associated with ...
