Groundwater ages in coastal aquifers
Advances in Water Resources, 2013The interpretation of groundwater ages in coastal aquifers requires an improved understanding of relationships between age distributions and the processes accompanying dispersive, density-dependent flow and transport. This study uses numerical modeling to examine the influence of mixing and a selection of other hydrogeological factors on steady-state ...

On seawater encroachment in coastal aquifers
Water Resources Research, 1974The seawater encroachment in a coastal aquifer is studied by means of a mathematical model. In some aquifers the dispersion amalgamates the encroaching seawater and the discharging freshwater to produce an extensive zone of diffusion. The coupled nonlinear conservation equations of mass and of salt are formulated and solved by the finite element method

Contaminant transfer in coastal aquifers
2009Groundwater flow and contaminant transport processes in coastal aquifers can be complicated by tidal effectsadjacent to the coast. This study was designed to evaluate the significance of tidal influences on contaminanttransport by focusing on one-dimensional homogeneous coastal aquifers.

Moving Interface in Coastal Aquifers
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1964The movement of the interface between fresh water and sea water in coastal aquifers caused by changes in seaward flow of fresh water is considered. Approximate solutions to the moving interface, its shape, position, and velocity of displacement are suggested.
