Numerical investigation of tsunami wave impacts on different coastal bridge decks using immersed boundary method

Ocean Engineering, 2020
Due to the strong interaction between the bridges and the extreme waves generated by hurricanes and tsunamis, many coastal bridges were damaged in the past few decades.

Research on Durability of Coastal Concrete Bridges

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The work presented in this paper focuses on durability of concrete bridges, which is worldwide concerned nowadays because concrete bridges will deteriorate and damage under the natural environment and the long-term usage. The shortage in bridges durability performance will result in severe environment problems; energy sources matters and economic ...

Equivalent elastic modulus of reinforcement to consider bond-slip effects of coastal bridge piers with non-uniform corrosion

, 2020
Coastal bridge piers in marine environments are vulnerable to non-uniform corrosion due to wetting-drying cycles and high chloride concentration of seawater.

Galvanized Reinforcement in Bridge and Coastal Construction

IABSE Reports, 2019
<p>This paper discusses the use of galvanizing for the corrosion protection of steel reinforcement in bridges and coastal structures exposed to deicing salts or the marine environment. Whilst providing both barrier and sacrificial protection to the base steel, the galvanized coating is also effectively immune to carbonation effects in concrete ...

Hydrodynamic Investigation of Coastal Bridge Collapse during Hurricane Katrina

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2009
A number of U.S. coastal bridges have been destroyed by hurricanes, including three highway bridges in Mississippi and Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina (2005). This paper addresses three fundamental questions on the coastal bridge failures: (1) what were the hydrodynamic conditions near the failed bridge during the hurricane; (2) what was the cause ...

Uplift Wave Load on the Superstructure of Coastal Bridges

New Horizons and Better Practices, 2007
Coastal bridges are exposed to severe wind and wave loads during a hurricane. Because the density of water is much larger than the density of air, the magnitude of wave loads is much larger than wind load, and can demolish the bridge superstructure if it was not specifically designed to withstand wave loads.
