Coastal Floods and Climate Change
2014The Earth has been undergoing a global warming trend since the Little Ice Age being mostly assumed to be progressively increasing along the last and a half centuries. But this secular warming and the previous Little Ice Age cold wave had precedents linked with sea level and other climatic actions.

European coastal flood hazards
Analyzing extreme events and determining their impacts in terms of coastal flooding are crucial for understanding and preventing potential risks caused by such hazards. These risks include damage to coastal infrastructure and the built environment and impacts on the population.Camila Cotrim +6 more

Statistics of coastal flood prevention
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1990For the design of sea defences the main statistical issue is to estimate quantiles of the distribution of annual maximum sea levels for all coastal sites. Traditional procedures independently analyse data from each individual site; thus known spatial properties of the meteorological and astronomical tidal components of sea level are not exploited.

Joint Occurrences in Coastal Flooding
Journal of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division, 1979Extreme levels of coastal flooding arising from the joint occurrence of a rare event such as a hurricane or a tsunami with the astronomical tide have a stochastic nature resulting from the random occurrence of the primary event relative to the phase of the astronomical tide.

Performance of coastal flood defences
2012Contents This chapter describes the performance of coastal flood defences under extreme loading conditions. Special emphasis is on failure mode analyses and available models and tools used to analyse the stress and resistance of various defence types such as breakwaters, sea dikes, seawalls, beaches and dunes ...
