Coastal Plain and Patos Lagoon
1997Wetland and deep-water habitats (sensu Cowardin et al. 1979) of different types characterize the coastal plain of Brazil’s extreme south, though the Patos-Mirim Lagoon complex is the dominant feature. With a surface area of 10 227 km2, the Patos Lagoon classifies as the world’s largest choked lagoon (Kjerfve 1986).
