Saltmarshes on the fringe : restoring the degraded shoreline of the Eden Estuary, Scotland [PDF]
Saltmarshes are highly valued habitats but the majority of the Eden Estuary’s saltmarsh was buried under sea defences and ad hoc rubbish dumps during the last century.

First multi‐season analysis linking cumulative duration and habitat selection to human modification in two declining shorebirds. A total of 160 cumulative duration was identified at four periods for two species. Longer cumulative duration correlate with higher human modification in coastal wetlands during northward migration and winter.

Modeling Decadal Salt Marsh Development: Variability of the Salt Marsh Edge Under Influence of Waves and Sediment Availability [PDF]
Salt marshes can contribute to coastal protection, but the magnitude of the protection depends on the width of the marsh. The cross-shore width of the marsh is to a large extent determined by the delicate balance between seaward expansion and landward ...

Nitrous oxide production and isotopomer composition by fungi isolated from salt marsh sediments
The emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas and ozone-depleting agent, have been steadily increasing from coastal environments, such as salt marsh sediments, as a result of anthropogenic nutrient loading.

Abstract Hundreds of thousands of peer‐reviewed articles and grey‐literature reports appear each year in ecology and conservation, creating a pressing need for scalable synthesis tools. We demonstrate that transformer‐based Large Language Models (LLMs), when embedded within a practical, expert‐in‐the‐loop pipeline, offer a reliable path forward ...

Physicochemical changes to soil and sediment in managed realignment sites following tidal inundation [PDF]
PhDThe recognition of the value of salt marshes and concerns over salt marsh loss has led to the adoption of managed realignment in coastal areas. Managed realignment involves the landward relocation of the seawall, allowing an area of agricultural ...

Anthropogenic effects and salt marsh loss in the Mondego and Mira estuaries (Portugal) [PDF]
Recent decades have witnessed marked losses of coastal wetlands worldwide, but consistent data on salt marsh area are not available. The main goal of this study was to provide information on two Portuguese estuarine habitats (Mondego and Mira) over a ...

Anticoagulant Rodenticides Contribute to a Decline in an Urban Carnivore
Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) have been shown to negatively affect carnivores globally and are closely tied to human activity and development. We examined drivers of annual survival in bobcats persisting on a residentially developed barrier island over 16 years.

Spartina anglica population and environmental studies within the Solent salt marsh system
The thesis examines the possible causes of decline of Spartina anglica marshes along the south coast of Britain with emphasis on the Solent marshes. The study shows that although there may be some genotypic differences between S.
