A field experiment on the use of biogeotextiles for the conservation of sand-dunes of the Baltic coast in Lithuania

Extreme damage was caused by wave and wind erosion on sand dunes on the Baltic coast near Palanga in Lithuania. Waves breached a wide ‘corridor’ or ‘blowout’ through the coastal sand dune. A progressively widening breached blowout developed.

The enigmatic case of Lipoptena sp. in the Bosco della Mesola Nature Reserve (Italy)

This is the first report of Lipoptena andaluciensis in Italy, confirmed morphologically and genetically. The presence of L. andaluciensis in Italy dates back many years; it was found on cervids in lowland habitats. A re‐examination of the previous report of the Italian L. fortisetosa is needed.

In order to fully elucidate the relationship between siliciclastic sedimentation and reef development, there needs to be a significant step change in how we record ancient and recent reefs. Domed‐rim microbial polygons and their preservation potential

Microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS) derive through interactions between minerals and microorganisms. We define a domed‐rim MISS, morphologically distinct from abiotic mud cracks and demonstrate its potential for long‐term preservation. These structures represent promising biosignatures in ancient environments on Earth and potentially Mars.

Functionally Rich Fish Assemblages Support Greater Rates of Multiple Ecological Functions in Seagrass Meadows

We show that the functional diversity of fishes promotes multifunctionality in seagrass meadows. We found that there was consistency in the seascape context and connectivity variables that structured the rate and distribution of different components of functioning and the functional diversity of fish in seagrass meadows.
