Long‐Term Storage of Meteoric Water in the Variscan Basement: Stable Isotope Constraints (δD–δ18O)

open access: yesTerra Nova, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 116-123, April 2026.
ABSTRACT F‐Ba‐Pb‐Zn (±Ag) deposits near the unconformity between the Armorican and Aquitaine basins formed by mixing surface waters and brines with fluid ascending from the basement. To better constrain the source of this fluid and the conditions of mixing, we analyzed the hydrogen (δDwater) and oxygen (δ18Owater) isotopic composition of water trapped ...

Coastal upwelling off North‐West Africa

open access: yes, 2015
11 pages, 13 figures North of Cape Blanc, the north‐easterly winds cause offshore flow of surface waters that are replaced by subsurface inflow of relatively cold and nutrient‐rich waters, driving the vertical cell of coastal upwelling. This vertical circulation, together with surface heating and horizontal mixing, causes the coastal upwelling front ...

Characteristics of Intense Multi‐Day Wet Spells Over West Africa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 4, 30 March 2026.
The study reveals a significant increase in intense wet spells, particularly in KASS‐D, emphasising the value of dense rain‐gauge networks. Larger‐sized events have grown, while smaller ones declined, boosting 3‐day and 5‐day wet spells' contribution to annual rainfall, with the Guinea Coast showing the highest increase and the Sahel the lowest ...

Submesoscale Vertical Heat Flux Amplifies a Cross‐Scale Positive Feedback in the Western Arabian Sea

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract High‐resolution simulations reveal that summer monsoon‐induced upwelling in the western Arabian Sea triggers vigorous submesoscale vertical heat flux (SVHF), challenging the conventional view of winter‐dominant submesoscale activity in open‐ocean settings.

Trophic Changes off Southwest Greenland During the Holocene and Their Influence on Carbon Burial

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract Organic carbon (OC) burial in sediments is partly controlled by catabolic biodegradation and remineralization by heterotrophic bacteria, but long‐term records of these bacterially‐mediated processes have not been available. Here, we use stable hydrogen isotope ratio of the saturated C16 fatty acid (δ2HC16:0) as a proxy of the prevalence of ...

Robust Yet Diverse Tropical Responses to Antarctic Meltwater Across Models

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract Continued melting of Antarctic ice sheets and shelves adds freshwater to the Southern Ocean (SO), enhancing stratification and inducing surface cooling. This cooling influences tropical climate through coupled atmosphere–ocean interactions, though model responses vary.

A Southern Ocean Multidecadal Oscillator Forced by Deep Convection

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract Some climate models exhibit multidecadal‐to‐centennial variability of the Southern Ocean (SO) associated with open‐ocean polynyas and deep convection. We characterize the SO variability of the Community Earth System Model (version 1) under preindustrial conditions run with two different ocean resolutions, low‐resolution (∼1°) and high ...

Topographic Anchoring and the “Silent Period” of Deep‐Water Polynyas in the 90°W–90°E Antarctic Sector

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract Antarctic deep‐water polynyas act as critical windows driving deep ocean ventilation, exerting profound impacts on the global thermohaline circulation and biogeochemical cycles. Utilizing high‐resolution satellite remote sensing and ocean reanalysis data from 2003 to 2022, this study identified eight recurring deep‐water polynyas within the ...

Prolonged Low‐Salinity in the Eastern Arabian Sea Associated With the 2020–2023 Triple‐Dip La Niña

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Abstract Prolonged low salinity was observed in the eastern Arabian Sea (EAS) from autumn 2020 to autumn 2023, closely associated with the 2020–2023 triple‐dip La Niña. Oceanic planetary wave bridge was a key driver of the extremely low salinity during winter, whereas freshwater flux remained an important contributor in other seasons.

Coastal upwelling off Western Sahara

open access: yes, 1977
[ES] Al analizar la dinámica de poblaciones y el comportamiento de los organismos sobre los que se basa la pesquería del Noroeste de África no pueden ignorarse los efectos del afloramiento costero creado por la Corriente de Canarias sobre el ecosistema. [...]
