Tooth Function of the Northern Raccoon (Procyon lotor) and Adaptations to Omnivory in the Order Carnivora

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 7, July 2026.
The masticatory cycle of Procyon lotor was analysed and visualised, elucidating the occlusal relationships of its cheek dentition. Grinding and crushing were found to play a major role in the tooth function of P. lotor. An OFA analysis furthermore revealed an occlusal relationship between the M1 metaconule and the trigonid basin of the m2, indicating ...

Pharmacokinetics of Long‐Acting Ampicillin and Its Impact on the Gut Microbiome and Resistome in Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta)

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Volume 49, Issue 4, Page 409-420, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Injectable antimicrobials with documented prolonged dosing intervals (> 48 h) for use in rhesus macaques are sparse. High resolution data reveal fundamental steps and turns in animal movements

open access: yesEcological Monographs, Volume 96, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract Animal movement paths display substantial complexity and variability, promoting efforts to identify universal rules and models that best describe them. Using high‐resolution (≥10 Hz) movement from 43 vertebrate species spanning diverse taxa, body sizes, and lifestyles, we show that paths are universally composed of straight‐line steps ...
