Optimization of Microfibrillated and Nanofibrillated Cellulose Coating to Improve Performance of Paperboard Intended for Food Packaging Applications

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
This study aims to optimise the application methods of a biobased suspension of micro/nano cellulose fibrils from agro‐biomass subjected to high‐pressure homogenisation. Two methods were selected, bar coating (BC) and spray coating (SC), and were tested using an LF factorial design with 3 levels and 2 factors.

Use of genomic information to exploit genotype-by-environment interactions for body weight of broiler chicken in bio-secure and production environments

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2019
Background The increase in accuracy of prediction by using genomic information has been well-documented. However, benefits of the use of genomic information and methodology for genetic evaluations are missing when genotype-by-environment interactions (G ×

Characterization of CobB kinetics and inhibition by nicotinamide

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Lysine acetylation has emerged as a global protein regulation system in all domains of life. Sirtuins, or Sir2-like enzymes, are a family of histone deacetylases characterized by their employing NAD+ as a co-substrate.

Mesoscale dynamics of cyclone Leslie (2018): A diagnostic analysis of a rare Iberian landfall

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This study presents a successful numerical simulation of cyclone Leslie (2018), using WRF‐ARW v4.5.1. Several mesoscale dynamics were identified indicative of the occurrence of sting jet and cold conveyor belt, which potentiated the record‐breaking winds in central Portugal.

Introducing Epigenetics Into Secondary School Classrooms—An Educational Design Study

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although epigenetics represents an emerging field of biological research with a potentially large influence on society as well as conceptual implications on how genetics is understood, it is often not a part of the biology education provided at secondary schools.
