Selection of reference genes for RT-qPCR analysis in a predatory biological control agent, Coleomegilla maculata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
Reverse transcriptase-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is a reliable technique for quantifying gene expression across various biological processes, of which requires a set of suited reference genes to normalize the expression data ...

Surface wettability affects attachment of male bed bugs Cimex lectularius to rough Perspex substrates

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 1, Page 96-104, March 2025.
Bed bug control may include the design of surfaces to which they cannot adhere. We present a custom‐made device to assess the attachment of bed bugs to different surfaces. On untreated Perspex surfaces, bed bugs showed minimal attachment at a substrate roughness of 0.2 and 0.4 μm.

Influence of Host Species, Location, and Aphid Prey on Microbial Diversity and Community Dynamics of Aphidophagous Ladybird Beetles in Guangxi, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2025.
Analyses of the 16S rRNA amplicons of several ladybirds and their aphid prey from various locations in Guangxi, China reveal the plasticity of microbial abundance in aphidophagous ladybirds across different ladybird species and locations. Additionally, aphid symbionts are sporadically detected in the corresponding predator ladybirds, indicating their ...
