Intraspecific Trait Variation in Tree Species Responds to Environmental Heterogeneity at Range-Wide but Not Local Scales. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Here we explore the relationship between ITV, spatial and temporal environmental heterogeneity, and the breadth of species' environmental distributions for 33 tree species across eight sites across marked environmental gradients in Puerto Rico. Species with greater across‐site ITV in wood density and LMA occurred over broader ranges of potential ...

In thermotolerance tests of tropical tree leaves, the chlorophyll fluorescence parameter Fv/Fm measured soon after heat exposure is not a reliable predictor of tissue necrosis. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Biol (Stuttg)
Heat tolerance assays based solely on the decline of photosystem II quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm) soon after heat exposure may underestimate the temperature above which irreversible leaf damage occurs and may be species specific. Abstract Tropical rainforests are hot and may be particularly sensitive to ongoing anthropogenic global warming.

Chemical constituents of Coccoloba peltata Schott leaves and their cytotoxic activities

open access: yesNatural Product Research
Chromatographic fractionation of CH2Cl2:MeOH (1:1) extract of Coccoloba peltata Schott cultivated in Egypt afforded four compounds, lupeol acetate (1), ent-13-epi-manoyl oxide (2), 5-methoxymethyl-7,8-dimethyltocol (3), and α-tocopherol quinone (4). The planar structures of the isolated compounds were concluded based on HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopy.

Pest categorisation of Coccus viridis. [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA J
Abstract The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Coccus viridis (Hemiptera: Coccidae), the green coffee scale, for the territory of the European Union (EU), following the commodity risk assessment of Jasminum polyanthum from Uganda, in which C. viridis was identified as a pest of possible concern to the EU.

Wild Prunus cerasifera Ehrh. Polyphenols Alleviate Hyperglycemia in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Mice via Modulating Gut Microbiota-SCFAs-PI3K/Akt/TBC1D4 Pathway. [PDF]

open access: yesFood Sci Nutr
WPPE treatment significantly alleviated type 2 diabetes by improving SCFAs and gut microbiota composition and promoted glycogen synthesis by regulating the PI3K/AKT/TBC1D4 pathway. WPPE also improved liver function and reduced oxidative stress and inflammation. ABSTRACT Our previous work demonstrated that wild Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.
