Human Cochlear Aqueduct and its Accessory Canals

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1977
The anatomy of the adult human cochlear aqueduct and its surrounding structures, and their normal variations at tomography, microdissection and plastic molding are described. The mean length of the aqueduct is 12.9 mm and the mean width of its funnel-shaped external aperture 4.2 mm. The mean width of the narrowest portion is 0.14 mm.

Enlarged cochlear aqueduct.

AJNR. American journal of neuroradiology, 1998
Enlargement of the cochlear aqueduct is a controversial topic, with experienced investigators doubting its existence because of a lack of published cases. We describe the CT appearance of an enlarged cochlear aqueduct in a patient with advanced congenital inner ear anomalies and congenital hearing loss.

Cochlear Implantation With Large Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome

The Laryngoscope, 2002
AbstractObjectives In this investigation, we report the outcomes of 14 adults (age >18 y) and 9 children (age <18 y) with radiographically proven large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS) who received cochlear implants at Indiana University School of Medicine.Study Design This is a retrospective case‐control study detailing the outcomes of 23 ...

Radiographic classification of the vestibular and cochlear aqueducts: The paired correlation between normal and abnormal vestibular aqueduct and cochlear aqueduct anatomy

The Laryngoscope, 1984
AbstractMultidirectional tomography (MDT) can be useful in determining the caliber, shape, and course of the vestibular aqueduct (VA) and cochlear aqueduct (CA). Clinical decisions have been based on the findings from MDT. Unfortunately, the clinical utility of these observations has been confusing and controversial because similar MDT techniques were ...

BARRIER MEMBRANE OF THE COCHLEAR AQUEDUCT: Histologic Studies on the Patency of the Cochlear Aqueduct

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1948
IT IS generally assumed that the cochlear aqueduct is a canal through which spinal fluid flows from the subarachnoid spaces to the scala tympani of the cochlea. This theory of the physiology of the cochlear aqueduct is based entirely on histopathologic observations.

Cochlear implantation in children with enlarged vestibular aqueduct

The Laryngoscope, 2010
AbstractObjectives/Hypothesis:To determine audiometric outcomes and complications of cochlear implantation in patients with enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA).Study Design:Retrospective review at a tertiary care children's hospital. Methods:Twenty‐three patients with EVA who underwent cochlear implantation were reviewed using postoperative pure‐tone ...

Enlargement of the cochlear aqueduct: Fact or fiction?

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1993
Enlargement of the cochlear aqueduct (CA) is often mentioned in the otologic literature, usually in its purported association with sensory hearing loss, stapes gusher, and transotic cerebrospinal fluid leak. In CT scans of 100 ears, the diameter of the CA medial aperture was found to be highly variable, ranging from 0 to 11 mm, with a mean of 4.5 mm ...

Micro-CT study of the human cochlear aqueduct

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2018
The anatomic structure of the cochlear aqueduct (CA) in human temporal bone specimens was observed using micro-computed tomography (CT).Micro-CT scanning of 18-µm-thick slices was performed on 30 slides of human temporal bone specimens to observe the CA structure and its relationship with its surroundings.

The cochlear aqueduct

1983
The cochlear aqueduct is a fine duct connecting the scala tympani with the subarachnoid space. Intraductal space is occupied by mesh-like connective tissue. The internal aperture which has a separating membrane opens at the inner ridge of the round window.

[Cochlear aqueduct].

Zhonghua er bi yan hou ke za zhi, 1991
The morphology and structure within the cochlear aqueduct have been investigated on the basis of a histological analysis of 234 temporal bones ranging from 12-week old to adult. Barrier membrane was found in 28.6% of the temporal bones examined, and fibrous reticular tissues of the inner opening of the cochlear aqueduct in 38.1% of the temporal bones ...
