Cochlear Nerve and Cochlear Nucleus

1975
The first recordings of single neurone activity in the auditory system were made from the cochlear nucleus of the cat, by Galambos and Davis (1943). In these experiments the authors were attempting to record from fibres in the cochlear nerve; subsequently, however, they concluded that the recordings had been from aberrant cells of the cochlear nucleus ...

Retrograde Degeneration of the Cochlear Nerve

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1975
Retrograde degeneration of the cochlear neurons has been studied in different types and degrees of peripheral cochlear damage such as acoustic trauma, intoxication, heredodegenerative deafness and others. It starts only when the peripheral dendrites to the inner hair cells are irreversibly damaged.

Facial nerve stimulation in the narrow bony cochlear nerve canal after cochlear implantation

The Laryngoscope, 2015
Objectives/HypothesisTo evaluate the correlation between a narrow bony cochlear nerve canal (BCNC) and facial nerve stimulation (FNS) after cochlear implantation (CI) and their underlying mechanisms and to predict the risk of FNS preoperatively.Study DesignRetrospective cohort study.MethodsA total of 64 pediatric cases that underwent CI were included ...

The Vestibulocochlear Nerve: Cochlear Branch Or Nerve

1995
Abstract The cochlear nerve, which is also referred to as the cochlear branch of the acoustic or vestibulocochlear nerve, is sensory in nature, and its peripheral processes are distributed within the cochlea-the organ responsible for analyzing sound; thus, it is the nerve specifically concerned with audition.

The involvement of the cochlear nerve in neurinomas of the eighth cranial nerve

Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 1989
In view of recent controversies concerning the preservation of hearing in acoustic neurinoma surgery, we examined the courses of the vestibular and cochlear nerve fibers in 12 intact acoustic neurinomas studied in our department. Due to its lack of specificity, the Luxol fast blue stain was found to be inadequate for our study of the nerve fibers.

Cochlear Nerve Deficiency

2016
Cochlear nerve deficiency (CND) is defined as a small or absent cochlear nerve. It is most often diagnosed in the setting of congenital sensorineural hearing loss and represents around 1 % of cases within this population. It is associated with a recognized syndrome in 30–50 % of cases, most commonly CHARGE syndrome.

[Neurinomas of the cochlear nerve].

Annales d'oto-laryngologie et de chirurgie cervico faciale : bulletin de la Societe d'oto-laryngologie des hopitaux de Paris, 1997
Usually, schwannomas of the eight nerve arise from the vestibular nerve. Yet, the authors have operated from September 1993 to September 1995 three neuromas whose origin is certainly the cochlear nerve. Surgery was performed by retro-sigmoid approach magnified by endoscopic procedure of the cerebello-pontine angle before and after removing the tumor ...

[Cochlear implants for the patients with cochlear nerve defects].

Lin chuang er bi yan hou tou jing wai ke za zhi = Journal of clinical otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery, 2013
By watching the effects of cochlear implants in the children with cochlear nerve defects, to evaluate the relationship and efficiency of HRCT AND MRI in diagnostic for cochlear nerve defects. The imaging dates and the post-operative effects of the 10 cochlear nerve defect patients were retrospectively analyzed.Three patients with bilateral IAC stenosis ...
