Age, length, and growth studies, and tagging experiments etc. undertaken on cod in Norwegian and Arctic waters have shown th a t there are many reasons for regarding the cod of the Barents Sea, and the spawning cod which every year appear on the Lofoten banks, as belonging to one population, the Arcto-Norwegian stock, or shorter, the arctic cod.
