Code, coding and coded perspectives
Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in Society, 2003I begin with a discussion of code and its primary types: embedded, source, binary and interpreted. I then consider three measures in which code is fundamentally different than print. In particular I speak of the trust inherent in connectivity, the organizational difficulties of information, and the problem of archiving information that may change ...

Code Refinement of Stencil Codes
Parallel Processing Letters, 2014A straightforward implementation of an algorithm in a general-purpose programming language does usually not deliver peak performance: Compilers often fail to automatically tune the code for certain hardware peculiarities like memory hierarchy or vector execution units.

We prove coding theorems for list codes for compound channels and for codes within codes. The theorems imply corresponding results for what are usually called simply “codes”, which are list codes where one is the maximum decoding list length permitted to the decoder.

Simple codes versus efficient codes
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1995Transmission of information is an important function of cortical neurons, so it is conceivable that they have evolved to transmit information efficiently, with low noise and high temporal precision. Such precision is consistent with the output generated by various working models that mimick neuronal activity, from simple integrate-and-fire models to ...
