Multiscale morphological region coding
SPIE Proceedings, 1991A new algorithm for multiscale morphological descriptions of binary digital regions is given. From a bound set of pixels in digital space it extracts a growing sequence of subsets approximating it; each approximation is obtained from the previous one by addition of the opening by one structuring element chosen in a finite family.

While predictive coding improves compression efficiency, the propagation of transmission errors becomes more likely. Region-based stereo image coding
Proceedings., International Conference on Image Processing, 2002A region-based stereo image coding algorithm is proposed and evaluated. Three types of regions are considered: occlusion, edge and smooth regions. The region in the right image that is occluded due to finite viewing area is estimated using a new approach. This region is independently coded.
