Self‐organized Criticality in Neuromorphic Nanowire Networks With Tunable and Local Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Memristive nanowire networks (NWNs) are shown to be electrically tunable to a critical state where specific local dynamics evaluated by multiterminal characterization are exploited as feature selection in nonlinear transformation (NLT) tasks.

Widespread non-modular overlapping codes in the coding regions*

Physical Biology, 2020
Abstract Messenger RNAs (mRNAs) consist of a coding region (open reading frame (ORF)) and two untranslated regions (UTRs), 5′UTR and 3′UTR. Ribosomes travel along the coding region, translating nucleotide triplets (called codons) to a chain of amino acids.

Isolated Regions in Video Coding

IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, 2004
Different types of prediction are applied in modern video coding. While predictive coding improves compression efficiency, the propagation of transmission errors becomes more likely. In addition, predictive coding brings difficulties to other aspects of video coding, including random access, parallel processing, and scalability.

Region of Interest Coding for JPEG2000

2010 International Conference on Measuring Technology and Mechatronics Automation, 2010
A region of interest(ROI) algorithm in JPEG2000 coding, with accurate bitrate control in each layer, is proposed in this paper. It permits each ROI to have its individual priority by adjusting the truncating points in Tier2. Truncation point is decided more than once for every codeblock in each layer.

Region coding and detail compensation [PDF]

open access: possibleProceedings of Third International Conference on Signal Processing (ICSP'96), 2002
An approach is proposed for segmented image coding which avoids the redundant and false-edges that appear in the late stages of hierarchical segmentation. The recursive shortest spanning tree (RSST) algorithm is used to obtain regions describing the main objects.

Lossless region of interest coding

Signal Processing, 1999
In a method and a device for transmission of S+P transform coded digitized images a mask is calculated by means of which a region of interest (ROI) can be transmitted lossless whereby the ROI can be transmitted and received lossless and still maintaining a good compression ratio for the image as a whole.

Multiscale morphological region coding

SPIE Proceedings, 1991
A new algorithm for multiscale morphological descriptions of binary digital regions is given. From a bound set of pixels in digital space it extracts a growing sequence of subsets approximating it; each approximation is obtained from the previous one by addition of the opening by one structuring element chosen in a finite family.

Prioritized region of interest coding in JPEG2000

Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2004. ICPR 2004., 2004
A method is proposed to encode multiple regions of interest in the JPEG2000 image-coding framework. The algorithm is based on the rearrangement of packets in the code-stream to place the regions of interest before the background coefficients. In order to improve the quality of the reconstructed image, partial background information is included with the

The meaning of near-neutrality at coding and non-coding regions

Gene, 1997
The nature of weak selection differs between coding and non-coding regions. Coding regions contain genetic information, whereas most non-coding regions do not have any information. Genetic information may be regarded as interaction systems, and the NK model of Kauffman was analysed.
