COEFFICIENT ALPHA: SOME TERMINOLOGICAL AMBIGUITIES AND RELATED MISCONCEPTIONS
Psychological Reports, 2000Three basic concepts in psychometric theory are homogeneity, consistency, and stability. These terms, however, are not singular in meaning as used in the literature and as a result often lead to confusion. The pluralities involved are discussed and alternatives are recommended.

Uses and abuses of coefficient alpha.
Psychological Assessment, 1996The article addresses some concerns about how coefficient alpha is reported and used. It also shows that alpha is not a measure of homogeneity or unidimensionality. This fact and the finding that test length is related to reliability may cause significant misinterpretations of measures when alpha is used as evidence that a measure is unidimensional ...

Coefficient alpha: conceptualizations and anomalies.
Research in nursing & health, 1992In this article distinctions are made among some of the different conceptualizations of, and formulas for, Cronbach's coefficient alpha as it is applied to dichotomous or nondichotomous, standardized or unstandardized, and weighted or unweighted data. Issues regarding the statistical significance of alpha and the occasionally encountered anomalies of ...

Second virial coefficient of alpha-crystallin.
Proteins, 1989Light scattering studies were performed on bovine alpha-crystallin measuring the scattering intensities as a function of scattering angle, concentration, and temperature. The data yielded the molecular weight, radius of gyration, and second virial coefficient of alpha-crystallin at different temperatures.
