Dramatic long-term restoration of an oak woodland due to multiple, sustained management treatments.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
We measured 34 years of plant community change in a degraded oak woodland undergoing ecological management. Management included regular prescribed fire, control of white-tailed deer populations, repeated sowing of a diverse seed mix, and removal of ...

Using Coefficients of Conservatism and the Floristic Quality Index to Assess the Potential for Serious and Irreversible Damage to Plant Communities

open access: yesThe Canadian Field-Naturalist, 2013
Coefficients of Conservatism and the Floristic Quality Index can be used to assess potential damage to plants and plant communities as a result of anthropogenic disturbances. This has benefit because it may be more powerful than an opinion and more easily understood and trusted by non-botanists and land use decision-makers.

Wound Geometry Determines Whether Aligned‐Fiber Scaffolds Accelerate or Impede Diabetic Wound Healing: A Biased Random Walk Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.

Thermomechanics of Picoliter Liquids Encapsulated in Metal Microarchitectures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Picoliter‐scale water is encapsulated inside hollow copper microcylinders through a single‐step localized electrodeposition process. Mechanical testing at room and cryogenic temperatures reveals that incompressible liquid and load‐bearing microscale ice enhance the strength and deformation behavior of the composite structure.

An initial industrial flora: A framework for botanical research in cooperation with industry for biodiversity conservation.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Humans have created an accelerating, increasingly connected, globalized economy, resulting in a more globalized, shared flora. The prevention of new, establishing species is less costly, both economically and ecologically, and is more manageable than ...

Light‐Induced Entropy for Secure Vision

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work realized a ternary true random number generator by exploiting stochastic traps emerging within multiple junction interfaces, and quantitatively validated the generation of high‐quality random numbers. Furthermore, it successfully demonstrated diverse applications, including AI‐resilient image security, thereby providing a valuable guide for ...

Metamaterial Antennas Enhance MRI of the Eye and Occipital Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A radiofrequency antenna platform comprising planar and bend configurations is developed, incorporating structurally integrated epsilon‐negative metamaterial unit cells to enhance MRI. These antennas enable high‐resolution in vivo human MRI of the eye, orbit, and occipital brain. Comprehensive validation, including simulations, phantom experiments, SAR,

Humid‐Air Condensation Heat Transfer on Hierarchical Structured Superhydrophobic Graphite Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Humid‐air condensation on graphite composites shows that making a surface superhydrophobic is not sufficient to enhance heat transfer. A hierarchical CuO/lauric‐acid coating yields spherical droplets but promotes Wenzel‐type pinning and adds effective thermal resistance under operation.

Synergistic Closed‐Loop Supply Chain Network Design by Considering Robustness, Risk: An Automotive Case Study

open access: yesEngineering Reports
This study proposes a novel network architecture called SYnergistic CLosed‐loop Supply Chain Network Design (SYCLSCND), which incorporates antifragility, sustainability, and agility while considering environmental needs, risk, and robustness.

Simultaneous H2O:O2 Co‐Reactant Pulsing for Functional Property Control of Atomic Layer Deposited ZnO, TiO2, and Al2O3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Simultaneous H2O:O2 co‐pulsing in thermal ALD modulates surface hydroxylation to engineer nanovoids and properties in ZnO, TiO2, and Al2O3. The ligand‑dependent pathway promotes c‑axis‑textured ZnO, reduced‑crystallinity yet Ti4+‑preserved TiO2, and highly transparent, hydrophilic Al2O3, while lowering the refractive indices.
