Investigations of the Restitution Coefficient of Granules

2008
The energy adsorption during the normal and oblique impacts of different spherical granules (γ-Al2O3, zeolite 4A, sodium benzoate) has been experimentally studied. Free-fall tests have been carried out to obtain the normal and tangential restitution coefficients that characterise the energy losses durizng loading and unloading.

Coefficient of restitution for bouncing nanoparticles

Physical Review B, 2010
We demonstrate the measurement of the coefficient of restitution, $e$, for nanoparticles, through observations of the final distribution of bismuth particles that have bounced within silicon V-grooves. The experiments, taken together with complementary molecular-dynamics simulations, show that $e$ is generally smaller for liquid than for solid ...

Listening to the coefficient of restitution

American Journal of Physics, 1977
A pedagogical method is described for measurement of the coefficient of restitution for collisions between a bouncing ball and a horizontal surface. Indirect measurement using only the sound made by the bouncing ball facilitates the rapid collection of data, allowing introductory laboratory students more time to concentrate on theory, method, data ...

Evaluation of Rockfall Restitution Coefficients

2015
Restitution coefficients for various slope surfaces affected by extensive rockfalls are proposed from back–analysis calculations that have been carried out in several sites of the Western Greece. These occurrences have been thoroughly studied in order to investigate the extent of the events, assess the hazard and propose protective measures.

Meaning and usefulness of the coefficient of restitution

European Journal of Physics, 2007
The collisional restitution coefficient concept is explored and extended, and the conditions in which it is useful are investigated and clarified.

Experiment for Measuring the Coefficient of Restitution

American Journal of Physics, 1958
An intermediate mechanics experiment is described in which the coefficient of restitution is determined from measurements on the oblique impact between two spheres. A typical set of data is presented.

Coefficient of Restitution by Video Analysis

2017
The coefficient of restitution of a tennis ball falling on two different kind of floors is investigated. The video analysis is used and it is shown that this is a simple method to obtain the restitution coefficient of several pair of materials, measuring just the initial height of the ball made of one substance and the maximum height after the ...
