Methylome Profiling of a Deuterostome Invertebrate Using Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT)
ABSTRACT DNA methylation is crucial for genome regulation and provides key insights into the interaction between genetics and environmental factors, offering valuable perspectives for ecological research. However, knowledge of DNA methylation patterns in nonmodel invertebrates remains limited.

Beyond synapses: cytoplasmic connections in brain function and evolution
ABSTRACT Following Ramón y Cajal's groundbreaking contributions to the identification of synapses, research in neuroscience predominantly focused on their pivotal role in neural communication (the neuron doctrine), overlooking an intriguing possibility suggested by Golgi of non‐synaptic interactions among neural cells.

The evolution of reproduction in Ediacaran–Cambrian metazoans
ABSTRACT The evolution of reproductive style is a fundamental aspect of metazoan life history but has not been explored holistically through the Ediacaran–Cambrian rise of metazoans. Recent molecular clock analyses based on only unequivocal metazoan fossil calibrations suggest that Porifera were present by at least 590 million years ago (Ma), all major

ABSTRACT Trammel nets are used with extended soaking times to increase the catching efficiency for demersal fish in commercial fishing. Long soaking time causes deterioration or damage to species caught in the first days. Effects of soaking time were investigated with 36‐mm, 42‐mm, and 46‐mm mesh sizes soaked over 1, 3, 5, and 7 days on target, non ...

Clinical Presentation and Pathological Effects of a Hydrozoan Bloom on Farmed Atlantic Salmon
ABSTRACT Largely unpredictable, gelatinous plankton blooms are a growing concern for the ever‐expanding mariculture industry. Recently, a bloom of a colonial hydrozoan known as Apolemia sp. was detected via a citizen‐science initiative, Nye.dugnadforhavet.no, in mid‐Norway in July 2023.

Mediterranean octocoral populations exposed to marine heatwaves are less resilient to disturbances
We demonstrate that marine heat waves decrease the resilience of Mediterranean octocorals to further disturbances. Abstract The effects of climate change are now more pervasive than ever. Marine ecosystems have been particularly impacted by climate change, with marine heatwaves (MHWs) being a strong driver of mass mortality events.

An Investigation on Species Composition and Quantitative Distribufion of Periphyton in Anzali Lagoon
The goal of study was to recognize species and distribution of peryphytons in the Anzali lagoon. Peryphytons are ecologically placed as a ring in biological chain between planktons and benthosis. They play an important filtering role in aquatic ecosystem.

Between the Poles: Rethinking Global Patterns in Sea Anemone Biodiversity
ABSTRACT Aim To assess global sampling coverage of sea anemones and global species richness across four different spatial resolutions, and analyse these along latitudinal gradients to investigate true bimodality and the extent to which these patterns have been influenced by uneven sampling efforts. Location The study encompasses a global scale.
