Assessing the Relationship Between Macroinvertebrate Metrics and Fine Sediment Index for Ecological Biomonitoring in the Little Akaki River, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Habitat quality had a positive correlation with percentage of Ephemeroptera, percentage of EOT, and Shannon diversity index (r = 0.833, r = 0.880, and r = 0.939, respectively). PSI had positive correlation with number of taxa, and ASPT‐ETHbios (r = 0.819, and r = 0.798, respectively). Most sites were heavily sedimented.

Testing the Optimal Foraging Theory in a Generalist Feeder: The Case of Reintroduced European Pond Turtles and Its Impact on Macroinvertebrates Communities. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In this study we investigated the macroinvertebrate (MI) communities in two newly created, man‐made ponds concurrently with the diet of captive‐bred European pond turtles that were translocated there. We aimed at assessing whether turtles were operating as generalist feeders, and if successive reintroductions of turtles would affect the overall MI ...

Increased duration of extreme thermal events negatively affects cold acclimation ability in a high-latitude, freshwater ectotherm (Ischnura elegans; Odonata: Coenagrionidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2020
Instances of heat waves and cold snaps are becoming more frequent and of increasing duration worldwide. It is well established that short exposure to high or low-temperatures, such as during extreme weather events, often results in adaptive (acclimation ...

Diversity of two families Libellulidae and Coenagrionidae (Odonata) in Regional Institute of Education Campus, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2017
Libellulidae and Coenagrionidae are the most dominant families among dragonflies and damselflies.  The present study deals with the diversity, occurrence and present status of libellulids and coenagrionids within the Regional Institute of Education ...

Relative Effects of Eutrophication and Warming on Freshwater Ecosystems Across Ecological Levels. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
This experimental study explores the effects of global change on different ecological levels. We demonstrate that warming primarily impacts lower ecological levels, such as community composition, whereas eutrophication predominantly affects the most integrative ecological level, that is, ecosystem.

Initial preference of oviposition sites: discrimination between living and dead plant material in Sympecma fusca and Coenagrion caerulescens (Odonata: Lestidae, Coenagrionidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2001
Sympecma fusca and Coenagrion caerulescens mainly deposit their eggs into floating dead parts of emergent plants. In their initial choice of oviposition site (selection of landing site) S. fusca does not distinguish between fresh and dead plant material,

Fluctuating asymmetry, body size, reproductive period and life time mating success of males of Cercion lindeni (Odonata: Coenagrionidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
Mating success is linked to reproductive success in males, but parameters influencing it are poorly known. The relationships between lifetime mating success (LMS), fluctuating asymmetry (FA), body size (SIZE), reproductive period (RP) and emergence date (

Latitudinal variation in morphology in two sympatric damselfly species with contrasting range dynamics (Odonata: Coenagrionidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2008
Geographic range expansion is one of the best documented macroecological consequences of climate change. A concomitant change in morphology has been demonstrated in some species. The relationship between latitudinal variation in morphology (e.g. Bergmann'

Analysis of an alternative method for the study of bromeliad-associated fauna in plants with different foliar organization

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2010
The efficiency of an alternative method of collection (by suction of water) for the study of Culicidae and Chironomidae (Diptera), Scirtidae (Coleoptera) and Coenagrionidae (Odonata) in bromeliads with different foliar architecture in a restinga at ...
