Torque and cogging torque in sandwich type CD-ROM spindle motor

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998
The sandwich type CD-ROM spindle motor has intrinsic dominance of manufacture and cost. This paper will propose a reference formula of torque constant Kt according to the experimental results, accounting for the mechanism of dead point, and finally introducing a design method to prevent dead point and to reduce the cogging torque.

Cogging torques in induction machines

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1968
Depending on the choice of design parameters, an induction machine can produce a cogging torque sufficiently high to give rise to locking at standstill. It is noted that the commonly used method of analysis of these torques, involving permeance waves, is strictly incorrect, and its use in conjunction with the ‘overlap’ method is inaccurate.

A reduction method of cogging torque for IPMSM

2005 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2005
This paper describes a reduction technique of the cogging torque in an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). IPMSM usually has the flux barrier for preventing the short circuit of magnetic flux near the magnet. The flux barrier can reduce the cogging torque, and therefore the shape of the flux barrier of IPMSM with concentrated winding ...

Reduction of cogging torque in permanent magnet motors

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1988
Cogging torque in a permanent magnet motor, which arises from the interaction of the rotor magnets with the steel teeth on the stator, can be reduced by skewing the stator teeth, but only at the expense of added complexity in stator construction and some loss of output torque.

Cogging torque in SPM machine with segmented stator

COMPEL: The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2016
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the cogging torque in a surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) machine with both uniformly and non-uniformly segmented stator cores and to find out the optimal solution of stator core segmenting. Design/methodology/approach

Reducing cogging torque by adopting isodiametric permanent magnet

2009 4th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2009
In this paper, being based on Fourier expansion and energy method, the analytical expression of cogging torque of permanent magnet(PM) motor is derived, which can be used to analyze the effects of design parameters on cogging torque. Then a new method for reducing cogging torque by adopting isodiametric magnetic pole is proposed.

Cogging torque sensitivity to permanent magnet tolerance combinations

Archives of Electrical Engineering, 2013
Abstract This study presents the dependence of the level and harmonic structure of the cogging torque in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) to imperfections of permanent magnet (PM) dimensions and positions, which can not be avoided in massproduction.

Study of cogging torque in permanent magnet machines

IAS '97. Conference Record of the 1997 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirty-Second IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
Cogging torque is produced in a permanent magnet machine by the magnetic attraction between the rotor mounted permanent magnets and the stator. It is an undesired effect that contributes to the machines output ripple, vibration, and noise. This paper analyzes various cogging torque minimization techniques as applied to a permanent magnet machine used ...

Cogging Torque in Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet Machines

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2009
The influence of manufacturing tolerances on the cogging torque waveforms, as well as the back-EMF waveforms, in 3- and 5-phase flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machines having different numbers of stator/rotor poles is investigated by finite element analyses and experiments.
