Cogging Torque Minimization in PM Motors Using Robust Design Approach

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2010
Cogging torque minimization is necessary for low torque ripple applications such as precision tooling, robotics etc. Various techniques are available but few techniques are proved to be effective in mass production under manufacturing tolerances/variations. The research provides a design approach to minimize cogging torque by making the motor robust to

Cogging Torque Reduction in a Permanent Magnet Wind Turbine Generator

ASME 2002 Wind Energy Symposium, 2002
Most small wind turbines use permanent magnet (PM) generators. The generators are usually direct-drive (i.e., no gearbox is required). Direct-drive PM generators are characterized by low maintenance and high efficiency. Small wind turbines are usually self-starting and require very simple controls.

Boundary element method in reduction of cogging torque

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998
A method to optimize the cogging torque of a brushless motor with parallel magnetized magnets is presented. The technique is based on the boundary element method. The optimal width of the magnet and the optimal shifts of the consecutive magnets are computed.

Study of Cogging Torque in Permanent Magnet Machines

Electric Machines & Power Systems, 1999
Cogging torque is produced in a permanent magnet machine by the magnetic attraction between the rotor-mounted permanent magnets and the stator. It is an undesired effect that contributes to the machines' output ripple, vibration, and noise. This paper analyzes various cogging torque minimization techniques as applied to a permanent magnet machine used ...

Influence of Closed Stator Slots on Cogging Torque

2013
Cogging torque results due interaction of magnetic field of magnets and stator slots, and have negative effects on permanent magnet machines such as vibrations, noise, torque ripples and problems during turbine start-up and cut-in. In order to reduce cogging torque this paper presents a study of influence of closed stator slots on cogging torque using ...
