Magnetic gear: Radial force, cogging torque, skewing and optimization
2015 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2015Magnetic gears are able to transmit torque between an input and an output shaft without mechanical contact. As for electrical drives, torque density, acoustic noise, and torque ripple are of primary concern. This paper describes the influence of the pole numbers on the radial forces and the cogging torques.

Cogging torque and torque ripple reduction of modular permanent magnet machines
2016 XXII International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2016In order to minimize the cogging torque and torque ripple for surface mounted permanent magnet (SPM) machines, this paper proposes a C-core modular stator which can be obtained by inserting flux gaps (FGs) into every stator tooth. The electromagnetic performances of C-core modular PM machines such as open-circuit flux linkage, phase back-EMF, cogging ...

New Approach to Cogging Torque Simulation Using Numerical Functions
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2011The paper presents a new method for simulation of the cogging torque in a PM machine. The method benefits the numerical functions for modeling the magnetic system of the electrical machine. To compute the cogging torque by the numerical functions, it is necessary to model the permanent magnets and permeance of the machine.

Reduction of Cogging Torque in AFPM Machine Using Elliptical-Trapezoidal-Shaped Permanent Magnet
Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society, 2021─ The reduction in cogging torque enables smooth operation and an increase in the torque density of the machine. This research aims to minimize cogging torque in dual rotor single stator axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machine.

In this paper the cogging torque of an existing permanent magnet DC motor must be increased. Thus motors are frequently used in motor vehicles. In order to hold a position the motor must be under current, because in most cases the cogging torque is too small to keep the motor in position.

Torque and cogging torque in sandwich type CD-ROM spindle motor
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998The sandwich type CD-ROM spindle motor has intrinsic dominance of manufacture and cost. This paper will propose a reference formula of torque constant Kt according to the experimental results, accounting for the mechanism of dead point, and finally introducing a design method to prevent dead point and to reduce the cogging torque.
