Protocol Design and Stability Analysis of Cooperative Cognitive Radio Users [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A single cognitive radio transmitter--receiver pair shares the spectrum with two primary users communicating with their respective receivers. Each primary user has a local traffic queue, whereas the cognitive user has three queues; one storing its own ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Design: One, but in different forms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This overview paper defends an augmented cognitively oriented generic-design hypothesis: there are both significant similarities between the design activities implemented in different situations and crucial differences between these and other cognitive ...

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Visual Disturbances to Avatar Foot Position Increase Step-Width Variability in Immersive VR Treadmill Walking

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Gait variability, the subtle fluctuations in walking patterns, is crucial for adaptation and motor learning. While existing methods to increase gait variability often rely on force-based perturbations, these can reduce motivation.

Dynamic Hebbian Cross-Correlation Learning Resolves the Spike Timing Dependent Plasticity Conundrum

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience, 2018
Spike Timing-Dependent Plasticity has been found to assume many different forms. The classic STDP curve, with one potentiating and one depressing window, is only one of many possible curves that describe synaptic learning using the STDP mechanism. It has

Tracking Motor Progression and Device‐Aided Therapy Eligibility in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterise the progression of motor symptoms and identify eligibility for device‐aided therapies in Parkinson's disease, using both the 5‐2‐1 criteria and a refined clinical definition, while examining differences across genetic subgroups.
