Ferroelectric Devices for In‐Memory and In‐Sensor Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological systems, in‐memory and in‐sensor computing overcome von Neumann bottlenecks. Ferroelectric devices can mimic synaptic functions and sense stimuli like light or force, therefore are ideal for these paradigms. This review introduces the ferroelectric devices applied for in‐memory and in‐sensor computing, covering their structures ...

Advances and Perspectives in Graphene‐Based Quantum Dots Enabled Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene‐based QDs are zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials with pronounced quantum confinement and tunable electronic structures. Herein, we summarize their synthesis strategies and functionalization methods, and highlight their functional roles and operating mechanisms in devices, as well as recent advances in neuromorphic electronics. We anticipate

Distorting the metric fabric of the cognitive map

open access: yesTrends in Cognitive Sciences, 2015
Grid cells are neurons whose regularly spaced firing fields form apparently symmetric arrays, or grids, that are thought to collectively provide an environment-independent metric framework for the brain's cognitive map of space. However, two recent studies show that grids are naturally distorted, revealing greater local environment-specific effects ...

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.
