Cognitive Map Routing

2016
We introduce a framework to navigate agents in buildings, inspired by the notion of “the cognitive map”. It allows to route agents depending on their spacial knowledge. With help of an event-driven mechanism, agents acquire new information about their surroundings, which expands their individual cognitive map.

Cognitive maps and attention

2009
Cognitive map theory suggested that exploring an environment and attending to a stimulus should lead to its integration into an allocentric environmental representation. We here report that directed attention in the form of exploration serves to gather information needed to determine an optimal spatial strategy, given task demands and characteristics ...

Fuzzy cognitive maps

International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1986
Summary: Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) are fuzzy-graph structures for representing causal reasoning. Their fuzziness allows hazy degrees of causality between hazy causal objects (concepts). Their graph structure allows systematic causal propagation, in particular forward and backward chaining, and it allows knowledge bases to be grown by connecting ...

Hierarchical cognitive maps

Neural Networks, 2003
We describe a computational model of spatial navigation based on experimental studies conducted with human participants. The model builds and uses a hierarchical cognitive map of a large environment. Computer simulations show that the model correctly describes experimental results including hierarchical organization of space and distance estimation ...

The Evolution of the Cognitive Map

Brain, Behavior and Evolution, 2003
The hippocampal formation of mammals and birds mediates spatial orientation behaviors consistent with a map-like representation, which allows the navigator to construct a new route across unfamiliar terrain. This cognitive map thus appears to underlie long-distance navigation.

Acquisition of Cognitive Aspect Maps

2007
Two experiments investigated the cognitive consequences of acquiring different aspects of a novel visual scene. Subjects were presented with map-like configurations, in which subsets of elements shared perceptual or action-related features. As observed previously, feature sharing facilitated judging the spatial relationship between elements, suggesting
