Cognitive Performance and Dehydration
Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 2012No matter how mild, dehydration is not a desirable condition because there is an imbalance in the homeostatic function of the internal environment. This can adversely affect cognitive performance, not only in groups more vulnerable to dehydration, such as children and the elderly, but also in young adults.

Food ingredients and cognitive performance
Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care, 2008To integrate recent discoveries in the cognitive neuroscience field on overall brain development, performance and energy requirements, with insight obtained on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of stimulation with food at the periphery.A clear picture emerges of the brain energy demand, its changes through life and the nutritional requirements to ...

Oxygen saturation and cognitive performance
Psychopharmacology, 2002The purpose of the experiments was to investigate how inhalation of 100% oxygen affected cognitive performance. A test battery was developed that was designed to capture different aspects of cognitive processes, i.e., perception, attention, working memory, long-term memory and prospective memory.

Blue light improves cognitive performance
Journal of Neural Transmission, 2007A newly discovered system of photoreceptors for circadian rhythms works non-visual and responds to blue light (460 nm). We report a longitudinal study in 44 adults, showing that a significant increase in alertness and speed of information processing could be achieved by blue light as compared to normal light.

Opioid abuse and cognitive performance
Drug and Alcohol Dependence, 2005A few recent studies provide evidence for performance impairment in dependent opioid abusers enrolled in methadone maintenance programs. However, it is difficult to differentiate the effects of a history of long-term opioid (or polydrug) abuse from the effects of methadone maintenance itself.

Apolipoprotein E and cognitive performance
Nature, 2000Key proteins implicated in the development of Alzheimer's disease are the β-amyloid precursor protein, which gives rise to the β-amyloid peptides that accumulate in the deteriorating brain1,2, and the different isoforms of apolipoprotein E (apoE). The apoE4 variant increases the risk of developing the disease compared with apoE3 (ref. 3).
