Statistics and reduction of speckle in optical coherence tomography
Optics Letters, 2000Studies have shown that optical coherence tomography (OCT) is useful in imaging microscopic structures through highly scattering media. Because spatially coherent light is used in OCT, speckle in the reconstructed image is unavoidable, resulting in degradation of the quality of the OCT images and impaired ability to differentiate subsurface structures.

Even and odd q-coherent states and their optical statistics properties
Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1993Summary: We construct explicitly even and odd \(q\)-coherent states \((qCSs)\), which are proved to form a representation of the quantum Heisenberg-Weyl algebra, and study their properties. It is shown that optical statistics properties of the even and odd \(qCSs\) are very different.

Thickness estimation with optical coherence tomography and statistical decision theory
SPIE Proceedings, 2015Thickness estimation, which has a broad range of applications, plays an important role in the field of optical metrology. In this study, we investigate a new approach—combining optical coherence tomography (OCT) and statistical decision theory—for thickness estimation.

Thickness Estimation with Optical Coherence Tomography and Statistical Decision Theory
2013 CIOMP-OSA Summer Session on Optical Engineering, Design and Manufacturing, 2013We implement a maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator to interpret Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) data, based on a Fourier-Domain OCT and a two-interface tear film model. We use the root mean square error as a figure of merit to quantify the system performance to estimate the tear film thickness.

Optical-coherence tomography of a dense tissue: statistics of attenuation and backscattering
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1994This paper addresses fundamental issues that underlie the interpretation of images acquired from turbid tissues by optical-coherence tomography (OCT). The attenuation and backscattering properties of freshly excised rat arteries and their dependence on the focusing and collection optics of the OCT system were measured at two wavelengths in the near ...

Optical statistical classifiers using coherent and incoherent light
Applied Optics, 1979Breast thermograms are digitally classified by means of a principal component analysis of a training set of breast spectral differences obtained in coherent light. The results are compared to the usual partition in categories of medical diagnosis. The statistical operators initiating the classification being expressed in terms of spatial frequencies ...

We review two techniques of unconventional holography, coherence holography and photon-correlation holography, which we recently proposed and experimentally demonstrated. We will emphasize the importance of noticing mathematical analogies in optics and physical phenomena, which give insights into the methodology for developing new techniques.

Speckle statistics in optical coherence tomography and speckle reduction by frequency compounding
Optical Coherence Tomography and Coherence Techniques, 2003In this paper we are investigating the possibility of a frequency compounding method for speckle reduction in optical coherence tomography. The method is based on incoherent summation of the magnitudes of two independent interferometric signals, which were recorded at two different center wavelengths simultaneously.
