The past decades have witnessed the development of new X-ray beam sources with brightness growing at a rate surpassing Moore’s law. Current and upcoming diffraction limited and fully coherent X-ray beam sources, including multi-bend achromat based ...

Cooperative allostery and structural dynamics of streptavidin at cryogenic- and ambient-temperature
Ayan et al. report two structures of the protein streptavidin - one at ambient temperature determined using serial femtosecond crystallography and a second one determined at cryogenic temperature.

ABSTRACT Background Pediatric cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in low‐and middle‐income countries. Cancer treatment may impair nutritional status, alter body composition, and exacerbate cancer‐related fatigue (CRF).

Partially coherent sources with radial coherence
Partially coherent sources with radial coherence are proposed. They present a circularly symmetric intensity profile and a degree of coherence whose absolute value only depends on the angular difference between the two considered points. In particular, the source is completely coherent at pairs of points belonging to the same radius.

ABSTRACT The International Paediatric Oncology Society Global Mapping Programme aims to collect data on global paediatric oncology services by continent, with Africa and Latin America completed. This study reports on the methodology and lessons learned for Oceania, a unique continent with resource disparity across countries, multiple small island ...

Distributed Kerr Non-linearity in a Coherent All-Optical Fiber-Ring Reservoir Computer
We investigate, both numerically and experimentally, the usefulness of a distributed non-linearity in a passive coherent photonic reservoir computer. This computing system is based on a passive coherent optical fiber-ring cavity in which part of the non ...

Evaporation of an anisotropic nanoplasma [PDF]
Intense laser induced plasma dynamics in sub-micron scale helium droplets are monitored by femtosecond time-resolved X-ray coherent diffractive imaging. Anisotropic surface softening and strongly anisotropic shrinking of the plasma core are observed.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Ballistic excited state dynamics revealed by polarized fs-XANES [PDF]
Polarized time-resolved X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) is used to characterize the sequential ballistic excited state dynamics of two B12 vitamers: cyanocobalamin and adenosylcobalamin.

Bayesians have a seemingly attractive account of rational credal states in terms of coherence. An agent's set of credences (degrees of belief) are synchronically coherent just in case they conform to the probability calculus. Some Bayesians impose a further putative coherence constraint called regularity: roughly, if X is possible, then it is assigned ...
