Deep reinforcement learning for coherent beam combining applications

open access: yesOptics Express, 2019
Coherent beam combining is a method to scale the peak and average power levels of laser systems beyond the limit of a single emitter system. This is achieved by stabilizing the relative optical phase of multiple lasers and combining them. We investigated the use of reinforcement learning (RL) and neural networks (NN) in this domain.

Dense Nanofibrillar Collagen–Silica Hybrids with High Strength and ECM‐Mimetic Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dense nanofibrillar collagen–silica hybrids are engineered by synchronizing collagen fibrillogenesis with silica condensation, producing printable scaffolds that unexpectedly approach native extracellular matrix organization and strength. These cell‐free constructs guide endogenous cell‐infiltration, enable localized matrix remodeling, and integrate ...

Coherent Beam Combining of 37 Femtosecond Fiber Amplifiers

open access: yes2019 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2019
For the last few years, coherent beam combining (CBC) has been drastically increasing the performances of ytterbium-doped femtosecond fiber amplifiers, up to more than 10 mJ output energy and to the multi-kilowatt level [1,2]. CBC consists in coherently adding the output beams of several independent amplifiers seeded by a common source.

Imaging of Biphoton States: Fundamentals and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum states of two photons exhibit a rich polarization and spatial structure, which provides a fundamental resource of strongly correlated and entangled states. This review analyzes the physics of these intriguing properties and explores the various techniques and technologies available to measure them, including the state of the art of their ...

Quantum Hacking on Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution System using a Wavelength Attack

open access: yes, 2013
The security proofs of continuous-variable quantum key distribution are based on the assumptions that the eavesdropper can neither act on the local oscillator nor control Bob's beam splitter.

Copper‐Based Crystalline‐Metallic Glass Composite Thin Films: A Novel Material with Enhanced Strength and Thermally Stable Nanotwins

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...

Quantum reading of digital memory with non-Gaussian entangled light

open access: yes, 2013
It has been shown recently (Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 090504 (2011)) that entangled light with Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlations retrieves information from digital memory better than any classical light.
