Coherent Beam Combining of Fiber Lasers

CLEO Pacific Rim Conference, 2018
Coherent beam combination has been established as a performance scaling concept for laser systems to overcome limitations of a single emitter. Today, the most powerful femtosecond fiber lasers employ his technique.

Reinforcement Learning for Coherent Beam Combining

CLEO Pacific Rim Conference, 2018
Reinforcement learning has been shown to be capable of solving complex tasks. Here we show potential advantages and disadvantages in the context of phase control for coherent beam combining.

Coherent Beam Combination in Integrated Optics

Nonlinear Guided-Wave Phenomena Physics and Applications, 1989
The coherent beam combination, or two-wave mixing, in nonlinear waveguide is a new area of great importance in integrated optics. The coherent beam combination has been successfully demonstrated in the bulk nonlinear materials, e.g., photorefractive1 or nonlocal Kerr materials,2 for image amplification,1,2 spectroscopy,3 etc.

Coherent beam combining of fiber amplifiers

2003 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe (CLEO/Europe 2003) (IEEE Cat. No.03TH8666), 2005
In this paper, we demonstrate the coherent superposition of fiber amplifiers in a Michelson-type setup with active amplifying arms. The diffraction limited beam quality from the amplifiers is not reduced by imposing the beams and combining efficiencies exceeds 95%.

A non-uniformly coherent combining beam

Laser Physics, 2014
An approach that can be used to generate more complex and interesting optical fields is proposed by controlling the phase, position, size and amplitude of each coherent array. To illustrate the advantages of the approach, the power coupling efficiency of the optical systems with Cassegrain-telescope receivers is studied.

Coherent Beam Combining of Fiber Amplifiers*

Lasers Congress 2016 (ASSL, LSC, LAC), 2016
Beam combining of laser arrays has become increasing viable over the past decade as the community has developed a better understanding of the requirements imposed by beam combining. Coherent beam combining (CBC) enables scaling the brightness by large amounts, in principle by as much as the number of elements.

Highly scalable femtosecond coherent beam combining

2017 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2017
Coherent beam combining (CBC) [1] of fiber amplifiers provides an attractive mean of reaching simultaneously the high peak and high average powers required for various industrial, scientific and defense applications. By using this technique, the highest energy provided by an ultrafast fiber laser system was recently established [2].

2-Dimensional Waveguide Coherent Beam Combiner

Advanced Solid-State Photonics, 2007
We report on a novel coherent beam combiner with the potential to completely eliminate side-lobe power in the combined beam, without the use of vulnerable refractive or diffractive optical elements in the beam train, allowing scaling to high power. We have completed a low power, 2-dimensional proof-of-concept demonstration. The 2-D beam combiner can be

Two-Dimensional Diffractive Coherent Beam Combining

Lasers, Sources, and Related Photonic Devices, 2012
A two-dimensionally patterned diffractive optical element (DOE) was used to coherently combine a 3×5 array of fifteen Yb-doped fiber amplifier beams into a 0.6-kW, M2=1.1 output beam.
