Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Copper–Tungsten Composites for Heat Sink Applications in High‐Power Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates the successful qualification of a copper–tungsten composite for laser powder bed fusion. The resulting components exhibited high density, high thermal conductivity, and reduced thermal expansion. Heat sinks with complex geometries were successfully manufactured, clearly showcasing the material's potential for additive ...

Unidirectional Tape‐Based Composites from Hemp and Pineapple Leaf Fiber: Mechanical Performance in Conventional and Bio‐Based Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates novel semi‐finished products made of unidirectionally arranged hemp or pineapple leaf fiber‐reinforced composites produced from different matrices. The materials are analyzed in terms of their mechanical and interfacial properties and void content.

Scintillation reduction for combined Gaussian-vortex beam propagating through turbulent atmosphere

open access: yes, 2011
We numerically examine the spatial evolution of the structure of coherent and partially coherent laser beams (PCBs), including the optical vortices, propagating in turbulent atmospheres.

Generation of Polarization Squeezing with Periodically Poled KTP at 1064 nm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report the experimental demonstration of directly produced polarization squeezing at 1064 nm from a type I optical parametric amplifier (OPA) based on a periodically poled KTP crystal (PPKTP).

Effect of beam profile and partial coherence on coherent beam combining performance

open access: yesOptics Communications, 2019
Abstract A numerical model of a coherent beam composed of a two-dimensional array of laser beams was developed; the model enables analysis of random phase mismatch in the combined system, as well as analysis of the influence of atmospheric turbulence.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy based optical phase control

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2021
In this letter, an investigation of the use of a covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA‐ES) algorithm is conducted as the phase‐locking method for multi‐channel coherent beam combining (CBC) for the first time.

Broadband phased array antenna steering by means of coherent signal combining in an integrated ring resonator-based optical beamformer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A squint-free, continuously tunable optical beamformer for broadband phased array receive antennas is proposed. The complete system is demonstrated, including E/O and O/E conversions, and optical signal processing.

Exploring Macroscopic Entanglement with a Single Photon and Coherent States

open access: yes, 2012
Entanglement between macroscopically populated states can easily be created by combining a single photon and a bright coherent state on a beam-splitter. Motivated by the simplicity of this technique, we report on a method using displacement operations in

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.
