Autodyne Coherent Doppler Lidars

Coherent Laser Radar: Technology and Applications, 1991
Autodyne coherent lidars, i.e., the lidars with intracavity reception of the echo-signals proved to be of efficient for studying the atmosphere1-3. They possess high sensitivity and high noise immunity. They make it possible to determine few parameters in question simultaneously, namely: the absorption along the path, the distance to the retroreflector

Adaptive parametric algorithms for processing coherent Doppler-lidar signal

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1999
The authors study the autoregressive and moving average (ARMA) filter for lidar signal processing. After a short presentation of the atmospheric laser Doppler instrument project (ALADIN), they introduce the objective of this paper, which is to extract the Doppler frequency and to retrieve the spectral width of a noised lidar signal.

Coherent Doppler Lidar Edge Technique

Coherent Laser Radar, 1995
With a coherent Doppler lidar one can measure both, the aerosol and the velocity profile. For direct detection the edge technique was proposed (Korb et al. 1994) to get information on the velocity too.

Effect of speckle on coherent and incoherent Doppler lidar

SPIE Proceedings, 1995
Doppler lidars can be separated into two main categories by the detection technique used, coherent or incoherent. This paper focuses on the differences between the two types of Doppler lidar and the effect of speckle on each. Coherent Doppler lidars make use of a local oscillator heterodyning system similar in principle to a Doppler radar to determine ...

Evaluation of Coherent Doppler Lidar Velocity Estimators

Coherent Laser Radar, 1995
Coherent Doppler lidar velocity estimators are evaluated using computer simulation to determine the optimal numerical and algorithm parameters that minimize estimation error. The Maximum Likelihood ML and Minimum Variance MV (Capon) algorithms are evaluated using simulated Coherent Doppler lidar data for the typical parameter regime of current 2μm ...

Development of coherent Doppler lidar for wind profiling

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Space-borne Doppler lidar is expected to make wind profile observations on a global scale with an accuracy of 1 to 2 m/s. It may solve the problem of the shortage of the accuracy and distribution in the current wind data. We have studied an eye-safe coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) model that could be deployed on the exposed facilities of Japanese ...

Application of fiber interferometer in coherent Doppler lidar

Chinese Optics Letters, 2008
A novel coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) system based on single-mode fiber (SMF) components and instruments is presented to measure the speed of target. A fiber interferometer used in CDL system is reported. This fiber mixer is employed as a coherent receiver to resolve the shifts of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and mixing efficiency induced by ...

Coherent focal volume mapping of a cw CO_2 Doppler lidar

Applied Optics, 1984
In this paper, the coherent response to a 100-micron diam spinning wire is determined as a function of its position within the focal volume of a 10.6-micron coherent Doppler lidar, and SNR contours are generated, both transverse to and along the system line of sight. Application of the contours to single-particle scattering is discussed.

Evaluation of coherent Doppler lidar velocity estimators in nonstationary regimes

Applied Optics, 1997
We evaluate the mean velocity estimator performance for coherent Doppler lidar measurements of wind fields with wind shear and nonuniform system response as a function of target range. Performance of the velocity estimates is characterized by the bias and standard deviation that are determined by computer simulations. Results are for solid-state lasers

Perspectives in Coherent Doppler Lidar Signal Processing

Topical Meeting on Coherent Laser Radar Technology and Applications, 1987
Remote sensing as a field of labor has a number of attractions. In addition to the fun of playing with high-technology gadgets and solving system problems there is the added satisfaction of measuring some parameter Nature has been trying to hide from us.
