Bayesian Analysis of Infragravity Edge Waves

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Infragravity (IG) waves (periods nominally 25–250 s) are generated in shallow water by nonlinear difference‐frequency interactions between shorter period (nominally 4–25 s) incident sea‐swell waves. Previous studies show strong IG reflection from the beach face and detectable IG energy in alongshore‐propagating edge waves.

Observations and Analysis of Turbulent Wake of Wind Turbine by Coherent Doppler Lidar

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
Turbulent wake of wind turbine will reduce the power output of wind farm. The access to real turbulent wake of wind turbine blades with different spatial and temporal scales is provided by the pulsed Coherent Doppler Lidar (CDL) which operates by ...

Rapid Hydraulic Modelling in Post‐Wildfire Channels Using a Tiered Framework

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 8, August 2026.
A three‐tier hydraulic modelling framework enables rapid, safe calibration of post‐wildfire channel models using remote sensing and limited field data. Tested on two contrasting burned Colorado watersheds, discharge and salt tracer velocity measurements alone captured most of the achievable model accuracy, with detailed bathymetric survey adding little

Shipborne Wind Measurement and Motion-induced Error Correction of a Coherent Doppler Lidar over the Yellow Sea in 2014 [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2018
Shipborne wind observations by a coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) have been conducted to study the structure of the marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL) during the 2014 Yellow Sea campaign.

Assessing Cloud and Precipitation Properties on Temporal Scales Using LASSO Simulations Over the ARM Eastern North Atlantic (ENA) Site

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The representation of low clouds and precipitation remains a major source of uncertainty in Earth System Models (ESMs), particularly due to challenges in representing their sub‐grid variability and scale‐dependent sampling. This study evaluates the performance of preliminary simulations from the Large‐Eddy Simulation (LES) Atmospheric ...

UAV-borne coherent doppler lidar for marine atmospheric boundary layer observations

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
A compact UAV-borne Coherent Doppler Lidar (UCDL) has been developed at the Ocean University of China for the observation of wind profile and boundary layer structure in Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer (MABL).

Nonlinear Kinematic Depth Inversion Coupled With a Spectral Wave Model

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract We present a bidirectional coupling between a nonlinear kinematic depth inversion method and a phase‐averaged spectral wave model to evaluate the influence of wave nonlinearity over gently sloping nearshore bathymetry. Time‐resolved wave imagery provides spatially varying frequency–wavenumber fields, whereas the simulated significant wave ...

Identification and Forecasting of Typical Wind Shear and Shear Line Based on Two‐Dimensional Wind Field

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
This study proposes a lidar‐based method for wind shear and shear line identification and forecast using two‐dimensional wind vector. Airport experiments successfully identify shear lines induced by gust front and severe convection, achieving shear lines movement forecast.

First Lidar Observations of Ionosphere‐Thermosphere‐Mesosphere (ITM) Na Transition Layer (∼120–95 km): Regular Occurrence Over Boulder (40.13°N, 105.24°W) and Possible Formation Mechanisms

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Using lidar observations of 12 monthly composites of normalized Na density ratios, we have discovered an Ionosphere‐Thermosphere‐Mesosphere (ITM) Na transition layer from ∼120 to ∼95 km over Boulder, Colorado. The transition layer occurs regularly in all months with a distinct separation from the predawn TINa layer and exhibits coherent ...
