Winter precipitation over the Iberian peninsula and its relationship to circulation indices [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2001
Winter precipitation variability over the Iberian peninsula was investigated by obtaining the spatial and temporal patterns. Empirical Orthogonal Functions were used to describe the variance distribution and to compress the precipitation data into a few ...

Precipitation Simulations of the O‐Phase in Ti2AlNb Alloys Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Simulated and experimental evolution of the O‐phase volume fraction during postprocessing of a Ti‐21Al‐25Nb (at.%) alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion. With results of sensitivity to input parameters from a thorough and quantified analysis, the interfacial energy matrix/precipitate is the most relevant input parameter for the simulation of the O‐

Coherent Power Measurements with a Compact Airborne Ka-Band Precipitation Radar

open access: yes, 2018
Coherent power is an alternative to the conventional noise-subtracted power technique for measuring weather radar signal power. The inherent noise-canceling feature of coherent power eliminates the need for estimating and subtracting the noise component,

Precipitation strengthening in an ultralight magnesium alloy

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Solution treatment and quenching can strengthen magnesium-lithium-aluminium alloys, but this strength decreases with ageing. Here, the authors show this is due to semi-coherent nanoparticle precipitation followed by coarsening, and control the lattice ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Slight Truncation Changes in Iron Oxide Nanocubes Strongly Affect Their Magnetic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Subtle variations in nanoparticle morphology can lead to significant changes in functional properties. An automated shape‐fitting method captures minor differences in corner truncation between iron oxide nanocubes of similar sizes synthesized under identical conditions, revealing pronounced disparities in their magnetic and hyperthermia behavior ...

On coherent carbonitride precipitation in commercial microalloyed steels

open access: yesPhilosophical Magazine Letters, 2003
Fine vanadium carbonitride particles nucleated during interphase precipitation have been investigated in the transmission electron microscope under controlled conditions of diffraction contrast. On dark-field micrographs taken with a carbonitride reflection, particle sizes ranged from 5 nm down to below 2 nm in diameter.
