Quantifying Uncertainty for Coherent Structures

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2012
AbstractField Alignment is a useful and often necessary preprocessing step in contemporary geophysical state and parameter estimation of coherent structures. In an advance, we introduce a new framework for using Field Alignment to quantify uncertainty from an ensemble of coherent structures.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Intermittency and Self-Organisation in Turbulence and Statistical Mechanics

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
There is overwhelming evidence, from laboratory experiments, observations, and computational studies, that coherent structures can cause intermittent transport, dramatically enhancing transport [...]

The uses of coherent structure (Dryden Lecture) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The concept of coherent structure in turbulent flow is a revolutionary idea which is being developed by evolutionary means. The main objective of this review is to list some solid achievements, showing what can be done by using the concept of coherent ...

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Coherent Measures of Risk from a General Equilibrium Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes
Coherent measures of risk defined by the axioms of monotonicity, subadditivity, positive homogeneity, and translation invariance are recent tools in risk management to assess the amount of risk agents are exposed to.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Experimental Study on Energy Evolution of Coherent Structure in Turbulent near Wake of Circular Cylinder

open access: yesFluids
The evolution of a coherent structure in a cylindrical wake was studied through observing its energy contribution to the flow field. Analysis using the proper orthogonal decomposition on the PIV data measured at two Reynolds numbers (Re) of 3840 and 9440

Transition of the Interface between Iron and Carbide Precipitate From Coherent to Semi-Coherent

open access: yesMetals, 2017
There are some precipitates that undergo transition from a coherent to semi-coherent state during growth. An example of such a precipitate in steel is carbide with a NaCl-type structure, such as TiC and NbC.
