UNDERBALANCED DRILLING WITH COILED TUBING

Proceedings of Abu Dhabi Interntional Petroelum Exhibition and Conference, 2000
Abstract The conventional overbalanced drilling of production zones generally results in a negative effect on overall productivity and cost, caused primarily by formation damage. As a result, the oil industry is turning more toward methods such as underbalanced drilling (UBD) to increase productivity and reduce overall costs.

Dispersion and Uptake in a Coiled Tube

Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1993
We have investigated the dispersion characteristics of a highly soluble tracer gas in a coiled tube lined with wet gelatine. Our experiments indicate that absorption and desorption of the gas at the wall dominates tracer dispersion along the tube.

Pumping with Coiled Tubing - A New Coiled Tubing Application

SPE/ICoTA Coiled Tubing Roundtable, 2000
Abstract Coiled-Tubing (CT) continues to grow as an enabling technology that provides cost economy and time efficiency for the oil and gas industry. It has gained wider acceptance than ever due to efforts of the manufacturers, CT application engineers, and field operators.

Coiled Tubing and Vessel Motions for Riserless Coiled Tubing Systems

SPE/ICoTA Coiled Tubing Conference and Exhibition, 2004
Abstract Special care must be taken tomaintain the integrity of the coiled tubing when performing subsea well intervention from a lightvessel without the use of a riser. In these cases the coiled tubingwill act as a riser with respect to withstanding the external loads from waves, current andvessel motions. To avoid local buckling of the

Rotation of Coiled-Tubing

SPE/ICoTA Coiled Tubing Roundtable, 2000
Abstract It has long been known that CT rotates during its life because the orientation of the seam weld at the end of the CT varies. This rotation changes the bending plane and thus the fatigue life of the CT. None of the current CT fatigue and deformation (elongation and diametrical growth) prediction models considers this rotation.

Coiled-Tubing Drilling

SPE Drilling & Completion, 1993
Summary In the 1980's, a "coiled-tubing revolution" began when coiled-tubing services were expanded to include most workover services. In 1991, this revolution expanded to include openhole drilling with a coiled-tubing unit (CTU) in place of a drilling rig. This paper discusses the design process and the limits associated with the use of

Fishing With Coiled Tubing

SPE Production Operations Symposium, 1993
ABSTRACT Improved coiled tubing (CT) technology, development of specially-designed hydraulically-actuated service tools, and increased emphasis on cost efficiency have made coiled tubing a viable option for many fishing jobs. Before the emergence of coiled tubing fishing technology, traditional service procedures included use of wireline

Applications of Coiled Tubing in ZADCO Wells

Proceedings of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, 1996
ABSTRACT Recent improvements in coiled tubing technology and reliability have resulted in an impressive participation of coiled tubing units in drilling / completion operations and well services such as stimulation, liquid nitrogen lifting, testing, logging etc. for oil and gas wells.
