Application of the random coil index to studying protein flexibility

Journal of Biomolecular NMR, 2007
Protein flexibility lies at the heart of many protein-ligand binding events and enzymatic activities. However, the experimental measurement of protein motions is often difficult, tedious and error-prone. As a result, there is a considerable interest in developing simpler and faster ways of quantifying protein flexibility.

Sonographic evaluation of umbilical cord insertion with umbilical coiling index

Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1999
The aim of this study was to investigate the association between umbilical cord hypocoiling and abnormal placental insertion of the umbilical cord.Umbilical coiling was measured by sonography in 253 pregnant women in their second or third trimester. An umbilical coiling index, defined here as the reciprocal of the length of 1 umbilical vascular coil ...

Adverse perinatal outcome in patients with an abnormal umbilical coiling index

Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1995
To evaluate perinatal outcome in neonates with hypocoiled and hypercoiled cords. From February 18 through June 13, 1994, 635 placentas from deliveries of at least 24 weeks' gestation were examined for umbilical coiling. The umbilical coiling index was calculated by dividing the total number of coils by the length of the cord.

Ultrasound Evaluation of the Amount of Wharton’s Jelly and the Umbilical Coiling Index

Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2009
Objectives: To investigate the association between the amount of Wharton’s jelly (WJ) and the umbilical coiling index (UCI). Methods: The subjects included 140 pregnant women in the 2nd or 3rd trimester. The antenatal UCI was calculated as the reciprocal of the distance between a pair of coils.

Coiling Direction of Globigerina pachyderma as a Climatic Index

Science, 1959
An interdependence between the geographical distribution of dextral and sinistral populations of the planktonic foraminifer, Globigerina pachyderma , and sea surface-temperatures is demonstrated. It is inferred that changes in dominant coiling direction at lower levels in sediment cores from the North Atlantic ...

An observation of umbilical coiling index in a low risk population in Nigeria

Journal of Perinatal Medicine, 2018
AbstractObjectives:The umbilical coiling index (UCI) is one of cord parameters for foetal assessment with limited studies in our environment. With recent advances in its evaluation, its significance, pattern, abnormalities and correlates need to be defined in our parturients. Methods:The umbilical cords of 436 neonates were examined.

Efficiency index and localization characteristics of magnetic stimulation coils

Proceedings of 17th International Conference of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2002
The authors have developed an efficiency index and excitation map to examine the efficiency and localization characteristics of magnetic stimulation. Coils with few turns are more efficient than coils with large number of turns; coils with small cross-section area are more efficient than coils with larger area.

The coiling direction in ceratobuliminid foraminifera as climatic index — a proposition

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 1983
Abstract The possible application of Jurassic ceratobuliminids as climatic indicators has been discussed based on the analogy with the planktonic foraminifera that reflect the temperature conditions by the direction of coiling of their tests. The ceratobuliminid species present in the Bathonian strata of Rajasthan, NW India are studied for their ...

Adverse pregnancy outcomes and the abnormal umbilical cord coiling index

Journal of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
BACKGROUNDS: The abnormal umbilical cord coiling index (UCI) may be one of the ways to predict adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study attempted to determine the association between abnormal UCI and maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes. METHODS: This longitudinal study was conducted on 400 women referred for delivery from April to August 2021. UCI was

Sonographic estimation of umbilical coiling index and correlation with doppler flow characteristics

Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1995
To quantitate umbilical vascular coiling antenatally, and to correlate the coiling index with Doppler flow characteristics in umbilical vessels. We studied 45 normal term fetuses within 24 hours before delivery. The umbilical coiling index was calculated using sonographic longitudinal views of cord vessels from several segments antenatally, and by ...
