Abstract Observations on the weight loss of 1 2 coins in circulation, by determination of the average weights of coins for each year minted, confirm the deduction by Spurr1 from similar work on pennies that the wear rate of coins increases with wear. It is proposed that this indicates a constant thickness wear per annum.
